Dimensionality is implicit in expressing texture. Whether simply applying heavy texture to stretched canvas or literally shaping the
underlying strata before applying paint, my mixed media paintings tend toward the sculptural. Many even go further, forcing
themselves away from the wall and defying the convention of a frame.
The aim of my paintings is to create contemporary pieces to suit the modern aesthetics of today’s design. The first priority is
always to be aesthetically pleasing, incorporating the feel of rough stone and earthenware, iron and precious stones. Fidelity
to strict replication is always second.
The organic shapes, colors and textures suggest imagery without the confinement of being a literal representation. Just as a
piece of cut stone may resemble a mountainside or a seascape, the viewer is invited to find any image they want or nothing at
all.
